Tanzania

 

The Tanganyika Transition

 

Formerly Imperial German East Africa until WWII, then administered as a British Mandate, Tanganyika became a republic in 1962. Its name changed to Tanzania in 1964 after merging with Zanzibar.

 

Agriculture, minerals and tourism are the main economic drivers but GDP per capita is still very low at USD1050 (2018).

 

Tanzania is blessed with the well known tourist destinations of the Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Mount Kilimanjaro.

 

Our first visit to Tanzania was in 2013 which took in the Serengeti, Ngorongoro and the Selous Game Reserve.  We returned to the Serengeti in 2017 and  2018.
