Kenya - Masai Mara

 

The Mara

 

This iconic reserve covers 1500 square kilometres in western Kenya and is part of the Mara-Serengeti ecosytem. The annual 'Great Migration' of wildebeest and zebra herds from the Serengeti to the Mara populate the Mara's grasslands from July to October.

 

The Mara and Talek rivers are obstacles in the migration's path and 'the crossings' of the wildebeest are one of nature's great visual spectacles.

 

We have visited in September in 'the crossing' season and also in March when the visitor numbers are much lower.
