Botswana - San People

Lost Worlds

This San family live at Jack's Camp and share a glimpse of a lost lifestyle. In a contemporary world, the lot of the indigenous hunter gatherer is not an easy one.  Denied access to land that has been locked up for National Parks or agriculture, they are unable to use their traditional hunting tools of snares and poisoned arrows.

A minority group with no political representation in Botswana, they feel dispossessed and marginalised.

Lauren van der Post's Lost World of the Kalahari published in 1958 brought the San people to the western worlds attention.

San rock paintings and rock carvings are a rich historical legacy and provide a precious window on an ancient culture.
